Wild Card - Tuna Still Biting!

Wild Card is still catching nice yellowfin tuna on their offshore charter trips. December weather can be iffy so signing up for a "makeup will call" list is sometimes the best way to join with a group for an opportunity. This trip was with Travis and Luke Williams from Yorktown VA and Ed Griffin from Pittsboro NC. Capt. Frank reported the ride in and out was good and the fish were hungry.

Wild Card - Makeup Walk On Charter Success!

Wild Card had two anglers looking for a walk-on (makeup) charter and saw a really nice weather window so Capt. Frank got busy and found a couple more anglers. Check out these results on the tuna! Unfortunately it is rough to find anglers to fill in the needed fishermen to share a charter this time of year but when we do it can be an awesome experience. Call us to put your name on a makeup charter waiting list and when a weather window opportunity pops up we will attempt to get you on a charter just like this one.

    Wild Card - Tuna Time!

Capt. Frank on Wild Card had an awesome offshore tuna charter with a great group from Virginia. It got a bit rough coming back but the fishing was worth the ride. If you want to take advantage of a weather break and catch some tuna Sharky's always has boat available for that last minute charter trip.

Wild Card - Offshore Charters Score on the Tuna!

Capt. Frank on the Wild Card has been doing quite well on the yellowfin tuna when Mother Nature allows it. This is the time of year for the best tuna catches. If you see a weather window that looks good we will have last minute boats available for your trip.

    Carolina Style - Tuna Time!

Awesome day for an offshore charter trip for these two gents from Concord, NC on Carolina Style. They had an excellent catch of yellowfin tuna and blackfin tuna. It's that time of year folks. If the charter boats can get out there the fish are waiting with their mouths open. The water offshore is still warm enough that you may leave the docks with a jacket on and be in a t-shirt once you get offshore. This is what offshore fishing is all about!

Carolina Style - Inshore Charter Trip Round Two

It was round two charter trip for Dakota and crew. Carolina Style started trolling right out the gate catching albacore just a few miles outside Oregon Inlet. Next they went down to AR160 and drifted for an hour or so looking for a shark but couldn’t get one to come up. The fishing has been great this Fall season and several of our boats have openings for charters. Please call so you won't miss out on a good time.

Wild Card - Morning and Afternoon Half Day Charters

Wild Card had two half day charter trips inshore. The morning charter group did well on Spanish mackerel and bluefish. The afternoon charter group enjoyed catching some hard fighting albacore on light tackle.

Carolina Style - Inshore Half Day Charter Trip

Carolina Style today had Daryn, Tori, John, Cooper, Penny and Dakota from Pennsylvania for a 3/4 day shark trip. It was a bit too rough on the drift for the sharks, so the group switched to trolling and found a good false albacore bite a couple miles off the beach turning it into a great day all around.

Wild Card - Another Great Offshore Charter Trip

Wild Card ran another fun offshore charter trip with Vince, Anthony and Nick Royalty, Sam and Ashton Schoenberg and Alex Brainbard. Vince and his family have fished with Wild Card several times. It was a bit slower and rougher than yesterday, but Anthony caught one NC Citation sized yellowfin tuna. They also managed another nice yellowfin and a blackfin tuna out of the bites. The wind and seas ended up laying out like the National Weather Service predicted, but it was a bit lumpy early on.

Wild Card - Spectacular Family Offshore Charter Trip

Wild Card enjoyed an offshore charter trip with a very eager family from Maryland. They had Chrissy, Hunter, Greyson, Ramsey and Remy Adair. It was one of those memorable days with the Hunter (dad) catching a citation yellowfin tuna, Greyson(who just turned 10 years old yesterday) catching a citation wahoo, Ramsey catching a blackfin tuna and mom finished the late bite with a nice yellowfin tuna. Even young Remy had a chance to do some of the cranking. Between a couple marlin coming into our spread and a fairly steady bite we would have to say they had a very memorable day all in all. Weather was picture card perfect and these youngsters were a pleasure to have onboard. Mom and dad obviously are doing a great job with them.

Carolina Style - Inshore Half Day Charter Trips

Carolina Style ran a couple of 4 hour inshore trips today despite some sporty seas starting out in the AM that ended up with a pretty October day here on the Outer Banks. The results were a good bite of ribbonfish with a side of Spanish mackerel and false albacore.

Wild Card - Offshore Charter Trip

After several days of Nor'easter weather to deal with Wild Card had an offshore charter with good friends Michael and Jack Smiley, Israel Roughton and Clark O’Neal. Capt. Frank reported that the Gulf Stream was still pretty dirty from the recent rough seas but they were able to make the best out of the few bites they were able to entice.

Sea Hag - Intermediate Charter Trip

It pays to be patient and have some flexibility sometimes when the weather wants to play havoc with the fishing charters. Ken and his boys Sam, Kyle and Andrew, from Pennsylvania, were scheduled to run their 3/4 Day Intermediate Charter on Wednesday. Thanks to the wind it was pushed to Thursday, and Capt Frank found a window of opportunity to go on Friday. Everyone had a great time and agreed they were glad they waited on a good weather day. Frank and first mate Cody had a lot of fun fishing with you guys and look forward to doing it again the next time you visit the Outer Banks!

Wild Card - Offshore Charter Trip and a Twist

Wild Card ran an offshore charter trip targeting blueline tilefish. It was the last day of the tilefish season and they got some nice fat ones. When they mover off and started trolling they immediately hooked a yellowfin tuna which was devoured by all those "endangered" sharks we are plagued with now. Before finishing they located an abandoned boat which they reported to the Coast Guard.

Also back up and running is Carolina Style. Today in the AM they started just southeast of the inlet with their group from the Richmond VA area. They found an excellent catch of ribbonfish before moving off the beach a bit and finding some hard battling false albacore. Carolina Style and Sharky's thank these folks for their service!

The PM afternoon trip with folks from Maryland continued with another great ribbonfish bite and a good showing of false albacore. The group also had a bonus moonfish.

Surf Clinic - Sand Fleas as Bait

We have the best surf fishing clinic guide on the OBX!! Maybe we are partial, but our guide, Mark Clippinger, is awesome. We hung out with him this past Thursday to watch him in action. He had some nice keeper Sea Mullet and released even more. His buddy Steve, next to him, had a great day too, even landing a Flounder and Sea Mullet at one time. Mark prefers to use sand fleas as bait. He said, “They are a natural food source for fish, and are free!” There’s definitely a technique to using them. He taught us how to rig them up, keep fresh bait on the rigs, and how to read the water. Whether you are a visitor or a local be sure and sign up for his two hour clinic!

    Sea Hag - Making Memories

Capt Frank and First Mate Cody recently did a make up charter for a 1/2 Day Near Shore Charter. If you are not familiar with make up charters it is when we combine small groups of people to “make up” a full boat charter. It’s a great way to get out fishing and save some money too when you don’t want to reserve the whole boat. This particular charter had three groups of two people each. Elizabeth and her son AJ, of West Virginia, were part of the crew. Elizabeth let us know they had a wonderful experience, and they cooked up their catch for dinner the next night. AJ told her it was the best fish he had ever eaten! We love hearing stories like that and being a part of OBX fishing memories of families like them! We truly look forward to fishing with you again on your next vacation here!

Haydens Express - Bonus Blue Marlin

Any day on the ocean is better than a day in the office, but there are some days on the ocean that will create amazing memories for a lifetime! Thursday’s full day offshore charter with Capt Ralph and first mate IG on the Hayden’s Express was one of those days! Pictured are Shaun, Grant and Scott from Annapolis, MD, along with Bill, Connor and Bobby from Walkersville, MD. These guys caught a mess of Tilefish, Tuna, and a citation Blue Marlin! I would say that’s a pretty good haul for the first time on an offshore charter! Capt Ralph teased the crew, calling them ladies because everyone was getting so tired from reeling in fish! Both groups made vacation memories they will be talking about for years to come. We are honored to have been a part of your OBX fishing experience. I know we will see you guys again next summer! Thanks again!

    Sea Hag - Making Memories

Making fun fishing memories for our families is the best part of our job! Catrina and her son Paxton joined Capt Frank, along with first mate Cody, from the Sea Hag, on a fantastic 6 hour charter recently. Fishing is in Paxton’s blood with a grandfather who is a commercial fisherman and an uncle who is also a captain. Mom says he talks about fishing non-stop! Capt Frank and Cody could tell Paxton was sharp and knew what he was doing so they let him get involved in all aspects of the charter! Everyone had a blast on this charter and we are so thankful to have been a part of their OBX fishing experience. We look forward to fishing with this mom and son duo again!!

We were blessed to have this fun family from Vienna, Va. fish with Capt Troy on the Fowl Hooked. It was a beautiful day on the ocean for this 1/2 Day Nearshore Charter. They caught some really nice Spanish mackerel and king mackerel. Everyone had a great time, made some great memories, and brought home fish for dinner!! Wild Card - The Good the Bad and the UGLY

Wild Card called their day offshore The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. They had regular yearly customers Ryan and Roy Lupton. Ryan started out with a white marlin that threw the hook after a few jumps. The next bite Ryan had "something" really big until 2/3 of our braid backing was gone, only to have the hook pull free from down in the deep. Roy had the next bite that ended up being was his first ever Sailfish which he released. Last bite of the day came about 5 minutes before "lines in" and it turned out to be a wahoo for Ryan. Then while having a beautiful ride in the port side engine gave up the ghost with a bang!!! So long story short Wild Card is broken down until they get this engine problem figured out. Fishing is a wonderful way to try to make a living but it can also be extremely frustrating.

Marcus, hailing from New York, was part of a full day Gulf Stream make up charter this week, and said it was an awesome trip. This great group caught 38 mahi. Another member of the charter, Tony of NC, said he had a blast and met some nice people. Tony said Capt Preston and Jimbo, from the Provider, worked their butts putting them on the fish. Don’t forget we put small groups together to make up a full charter. Call and get on our make up list if you’re planning an Outer Banks vacation this summer.

Wild Card - Half Day Near Shore

Wild Card enjoyed a half day near shore charter with Michelle, Cameren and Chase Phifer from Montana and David and Lisa Saghy from Corolla NC. Today was about getting these two young men out onto the ocean for the first time and maybe catching a few fish. The weather was looking very testy, but these folks decided to give it a go anyway. Turned out to be a very pleasant afternoon trip. False albacore and a few spanish mackerel were hooked up and made for a good time. Their last bite was on a top water chain that had the fish and baits come completely out of the water on the hit, pretty cool stuff! Capt. Frank said he really enjoyed the company and it was his honor to meet these well behaved/respectful young men.

Carolina Style - Family Fishing Blast

What amazing fishery we have here on the Outer Banks. Carolina Style started out this afternoon catching ribbonfish, then Hunter and his crew want to catch something different. So they ease off the beach a little bit and found false albacore busting the water. Fun to watch but they wouldn't bite. Then while trolling they spot a big sea turtle and was able to pull a cobia out from underneath it. They continued to troll a bit further and crossed a color change and lost a king mackerel at the back of the boat. They continued to fish the tide change and caught a small mahi and boston mackerel. In our opinion the center picture pretty much sums up what this charter trip was all about with no words needed!!!! It's a keeper and I'd frame it.

Wild Card - Another Exceptional Offshore Charter

Wild Card ran an offshore charter offshore with brothers Jay and Jamie Arrowood from WV and MD today. The very first bite was a blue marlin right out of the gate but it parted the leader very quickly. The baits immediately went back out and they started hitting yellowfin tuna. The anglers also caught a wahoo and lost another much bigger wahoo at the stern. They ended up with some fresher than fresh fillets and loins!

Wild Card had another offshore charter trip started out with a slick calm sea and drop dead gorgeous sunrise. Tuna were very willing for the first hour or so, then it became a serious grass shagging morning. Around noon they had a beautiful bite on the middle rigger that ended up being an amazing blue marlin. Congratulations on your first blue marlin Gavin! It is customary to get thrown off the dock with your first billfish. These pictures prove that we're all about tradition around here. Wild Card ran an offshore charter with some local folks from Plymouth NC. We had Jaquan and Darrell Basnight Sr, Kwonliyah Flynn, Elijah Hill, Robert Gibbs and Elfentre Johnson, on a beautiful day spent in the ocean. These folks wanted good meat for the table, so we started out deep dropping bottom fishing for blueline tilefish. They were doing well until the "endangered" sharks came from every direction. Although sharks chasing your catch adds to the excitement it can be pretty discouraging to lose a lot of good meat to sharks that are considered to be gone.

Wild Card ventured offshore with a group of friends from Souderton Pa. They had Brian Gilbert, Fred Gerloff, Jeff Welch, Jamie Frank and Steve Rattigan with them. Well there was a really good bite, tunas, flying fish and carnage a plenty! These guy's got the day started off by biting the head off of flying fish that landed on deck running away from a wolfpack of yellowfins, then came the traditional taking a bite out of your first tuna's beating heart. Capt. Frank commented that these guys were either ruthless or they watch waaayyyyyy too much NATGEO! As an extra bonus Brian took the shot at gaffing his first tuna ever and did it with a 100% dead on hit! You guys did great and earned the day you had. Wild Card - Offshore Fishing on a Slow Wet Saturday

Wild Card ran an offshore charter trip with Terri, Stu and Matt Crawford, Amber Adams, Johnathon and Donna Rice from Yorktown VA. Capt. Frank quipped, "Some days you're the windshield, some days you're the bug." He said that he felt like the bug this wet Saturday. It started out with a couple bites, with one solid yellowfin tuna that chafed through the leader right at the stern inches away from getting the gaff and coming aboard. After that disappointment they eventually scrapped out Miss Donna's first ever tuna, but it was a long day after that. Being humbled is part this World and it makes the days that come together even better. Even a slow wet day fishing is still better than sitting at a desk all day!

Carolina Style - Exceptionally Productive Afternoon

Carolina Style had an exceptionally productive afternoon on the water with Paul McPherson, Mark Tully, Andrew Tully, and Liam Tully. As you can see the Ribbonfish were thick just to the southeast of Oregon Inlet. The near shore fishing is really heating up and seems like it's getting better every day.

Wild Card - Rainy Day Offshore Charter

Wild Card had a fun offshore charter experience with Glenn and Paolo Bailey from Ft Meyers FL. Catching their first yellowfin tuna was the focus of the day. This father/son team fish a lot but hadn't had the experience of a yellowfin tuna yet. It was a rainy, slow bite kind of a day. Capt. Frank reported they early on they lost a few fish, but now these gentlemen have gotten to experience the extreme pull of a yellowfin tuna!

Wild Card - Productive Offshore Charter

Wild Card had an excellent offshore charter with a crew from Roanoke Va. They had Jason Markle, Matt Martin, Jared Craft, Caleb Craft and Carl Craft. There was enough action through the day to keep everyone on their toes. They lost a couple fish due to pulled hooks, but Hallelujah none to sharks today! A very nice class of yellowfin tuna. Hope you fellas enjoyed your day and those fresh tuna loins.
